Innovate the Hunter -
Hunter Valley Research Foundation Final Report
Innovation in Engineering-Based Manufacturers in the Hunter
Region: 2005 - Abridged Executive Summary
HunterNet surveys…
A telephone survey of 157 engineering-based manufacturing companies
in the Hunter Region was undertaken by the Hunter Valley Research
Foundation (HVRF) on behalf of HunterNet Co-operative Ltd in November
2005. The dual aims of the survey were to assist in evaluating
progress of HunterNet’s broadly based Model for Action program,
and its more focused offshoot the Innovate the Hunter program,
designed to promote and develop innovation in engineering-based
manufacturers (EBMs) in the Hunter. The survey response rate was
87 per cent of all eligible respondents contacted. Results were
compared with those from a more detailed survey conducted by the
HVRF in 2001, prior to implementation of the Model for Action,
to provide some ‘baseline’ data for understanding
and quantifying the state of innovation in Hunter EBMs.
